SWAT SBT-15 v.2

A few years ago, very few people took this brand seriously, but here one after another extremely successful models began to come out, and in general, the lineup lined up logically. Last year, the initial series of Master (MAS) and Revolution (REV) subwoofers "made some noise" in the segment of affordable SQ, but today I have an older series in my laboratory - Sabotage (SBT). Moreover, also updated, with the index v.2, these subs just went on sale at the beginning of the year. This is not yet a fierce SPL, they can be classified as "civilian", but they are clearly designed for fans of "tossing coal into the furnace."

FIRST STUDY, SPEAKER DESIGN

I won't dwell here too much, there are no super-duper patented solutions in these subs, but in general the design is balanced and without frankly weak points. The speakers are assembled on stamped steel baskets.

Upper suspensions, according to the latest trends, are narrow and high - these allow for a large stroke, but do not eat up the effective radiation area of ​​relatively hefty "lip" suspensions.

Diffusers are traditional pressed cellulose.

The push terminals accept a not too thick cable, you cannot cram some 8 Ga into them, but a 4 sq. mm flies without problems. The leads are sewn through a centering washer.

The centering washers themselves are not just glued to the basket, but also pressed against it with a ring - you certainly won't be able to tear it off around the perimeter. There is also an additional reinforcing ring at the point of attachment to the coil. You can see it if you turn the speaker over and look through the cooling windows.

The voice coil is 2.5 inches in size. Coiled with copper wire and coated with high temperature varnish.

Coil cooling is organized through the windows under the centering washer, the axial channel in the magnetic system and additional holes in the end plate of the magnetic circuit.

Of course, only practice can show the real reliability of subwoofers, but so far everything suggests that they have tried to strengthen potential weak points. The approach is good.

MEASUREMENT OF ELECTROMECHANICAL PARAMETERS

The measurements were carried out, as always, after the "massage" of the centering washers, followed by warming up on the sinus for several hours and cooling down. The parameters of such speakers usually stabilize for a long time, then I will make a small correction for this when calculating. If we take it into account, then getting into the application turned out to be good.

In short, these subs are classic "heavyweights" with powerful motors and never easy movement. So yes, the positioning of the Sabotage series is correct - not for subtle bass exercises, but so that you can "blame it".

MEASURING INTRINSIC DISTORTION OF SPEAKERS

Here was a surprise. Distortion was not as high as is usually the case with heavyweight subs. However, if you look at the graphs more closely, it turns out that as the frequency rises, the third harmonic comes to the fore quite early. In other words, up to 80-100 Hz these subs will normally not finish playing. As, however, and any subwoofer with heavy movements. Their main task is a deep, heavy tactile bass that hits the chest with a hammer and makes the liver vibrate.

The picture is similar for the 15-inch SBT-15 v.2. If there is not enough free space, you can tighten up the amount of ZA relative to that proposed in the description, but you don't need to get carried away much. But the FI can be reduced safely. The universal version, however, does not work anymore - the bass is either deep or very deep. But that's okay - the 15-inch gauge is behind this and the choice.

BRIEFLY IN ESSENCE

So, the answer to the main question - who makes sense to take a closer look at the Sabotage series. Well, obviously not for those who like quiet jazz with a falling asleep double bass in the background or light instrumental. This is "heavy bombilovo" to rhythmic electronic music with a dense beat, to rap and other genres, where it is not the subtle articulation of the bass that is important, but a powerful low-frequency thrust. If you want more musical - wells for the Master and Revolution series , there subs are better suited for this.

A small note - for rhythmic music, in which a dense tactile beat (house, trance) is important, it makes sense to choose a 12-inch SBT-12 v.2, but if you need not so much bass density as its depth, then it is better to choose 15 -inch SBT-15 v.2. It is heavier, not so versatile, requires a larger case, but it also works more confidently at the very bottom.

And yes, do not forget about the choice of amplifiers, with dead monoblocks Sabotage subs will not show their capabilities. Their sensitivity, of course, is not catastrophically small, normal, but heavy diffusers need not only kick, but also somehow control their movement. So I would be looking at amplifiers with a power closer to a kilowatt.
